Final Fantasy 6
It’s been a year since I finished Final Fantasy 6. For years now I have been exposed to Final Fantasy ads, trailers, and people talking about what their favorite Final Fantasy is or speculating what the next Final Fantasy is going to be. For a lot of gamers, they grew up with Final Fantasy games. So, it makes sense how popular it is and the fact that right now they are remaking one of the biggest Final Fantasy games, which is Final Fantasy 7. I didn’t grow up knowing about Final Fantasy, so I don’t have the nostalgia factor a lot of gamers have. The Final Fantasy games I was most exposed to were Final Fantasy 13 games and the trailers for Final Fantasy 13 verses. Which is a separate grain from Final Fantasy 13 which. With different setting and. Characters. But at the time, I was not interested in Final Fantasy games.
After a couple of years, I see a trailer for what seems to be Final Fantasy 13 Versus, but then it’s revealed that Square Enix renamed it to Final Fantasy 15 and it was remade in the new engine for the PlayStation 4. It was a cool trailer, and I watched Kingsglaive movie which did hype me up, so I decided to play Final Fantasy 15. I only played for like a couple hours and I enjoyed my time with it, but I think I decided to play some other games, so I never gone back to it. The first Final Fantasy game I did finish was Final Fantasy 14. And I think that was because I was playing with friends and also, I got enthralled by the story. By the end of each expansion, I was looking forward to the next one.
Amid me playing Final Fantasy 14. I wanted to go back and play some older Final Fantasy games and since the games are not connected by story aspects, I decided to start with Final Fantasy 6. I think for a lot of other fantasy players you either started with Final Fantasy 6 or 7. Final Fantasy 7 being the 1st 3D entry in the series and was really successful. Final Fantasy 6 being the last pixel based game, it has awesome pixel art style. Square Enix did release a pixel collection for Final Fantasy 1 through 6. It revamped the pixel art and soundtracks and is largely the best way to play Final Fantasy classic games. I played the first steam release version with the mod that improved some features and visuals. When I started, Pixel collection was not out yet. So my only choice was to get it through Green Man gaming because the Steam version got delisted because the pixel remaster was coming soon, but I wanted to get the original release because I wanted to play it now, so I had to go to Green Man gaming and get the Steam version and activate the key that way. What an amazing game Fantasy 6 is. It released back in 1992 and the first thing I noticed was the amazing intro scene and the music. I could tell right away that the story is going to be an epic adventure and with all the characters we meet and recruit, the story is full of epic moments and sad moments. I got to experience classic Final Fantasy music, and I got to experience all the references that Final Fantasy 14 has.
So, I started writing this like a year ago and I am just coming back to finish it. It’s been like more than two years since I finished Final Fantasy 6. But still looking back Final Fantasy 6 was amazing and the story is still memorable. Now looking two years back I remember how each character has their own story arc and by the end of the game I think I felt that almost all of the characters got good coverage. Since it’s been quite a while since I have played it, I don’t remember all the plot lines, but I do remember the main one. And I think they were successful in telling a good story with all the characters. I enjoyed the combat system and collecting the espers. The game had a good difficulty, and I remember the final mission was really hard and I had to repeat it. I looked up how to beat it and followed a guide to get the Ultima spell to my characters and some good gear that complement them. At that point I wanted to beat the game and finish the story. I think I’m at the point where if it is too hard, I will just play it on easy or follow a guide. But that’s a discussion for another time. I put off writing this for a long time now, so my thoughts are going to be all over the place. And it’s going to read really discombobulated. And also, I don’t think I’m a good writer.
Going back to FF6, the game is a classic that I think everyone should experience as it was a big release for its time and an Important milestone in the Final Fantasy franchise. With the Pixel Remaster, it’s easy to get and play on modern systems with some quality-of-life features. I think Final Fantasy 6 does deserve all the hype it has gained. Thank you for reading this really awkwardly written blog post. Like I said, it’s been like a year since I started writing this and it’s been 2 years since I’ve finished Final Fantasy 6. I’m not a good writer, but I do want to finish this and put it out on my blog site. Again, thank you for reading, have a good day.
